Two ways to play: online on the public server, where anyone can find an opponent, or at a table of your own, hosted by a friend over Radmin VPN.

Released25 October 2026
Play online (the game)474 MB zip
Host your own (game and server)688 MB zip

Not sure? Take Play online. The game is not code-signed: if Windows says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.

Play online

  1. Unzip the download somewhere, for example your Desktop. Don't start the game from inside the zip.
  2. Run Play Forgotten Words.bat. It connects to play.forgottenwordsgame.com over an encrypted connection by itself.
  3. Your account is made the first time you connect: no password, nothing to type. It lives on your PC in session.cfg, so back that file up; HOW TO PLAY ONLINE.txt says where it is.
  4. In the game, open Friends, send your friend code, and invite each other once the request is accepted.

Host your own table

One download with both halves: the game for every player, and the server for the host. Start with START HERE.txt.

  1. Everyone installs Radmin VPN and joins the host's network.
  2. The host runs Start Server.bat in the Forgotten Words Server folder. The first time, Windows asks to let it through the firewall: allow it.
  3. The host gives the players the Forgotten Words folder. The first time a player runs Play Forgotten Words.bat, it asks for the host's Radmin address and remembers it. The host plays too, with the address 127.0.0.1.
  4. Updating? Copy the old accounts, stats and custom_cards folders into the new server folder before you start it.

New in 1.0.1

  • The public server, play.forgottenwordsgame.com: the Play online download connects there by itself, encrypted.
  • A second download to host your own table over Radmin VPN, the server included.
  • Played at the old Radmin table? The online game brings your account along the first time it starts.
  • Privacy & Impressum in the game: on the connecting screen, under About, and on the main menu.
  • The music credit names its composer, Nicolas Jeudy, with Dark Fantasy Studio; the credits are under About > Licences too.

New in 1.0.0

  • The Card Maker (main menu, Play panel): name, true name, type, stats, game art or your own pictures, the films, and any effect in the game with your own numbers. It warns you first: it shows every effect, secret ones too.
  • Custom cards on a server: the host drops .fwcard files into the server's custom_cards folder; players get them by themselves when they connect, and are told if a card they installed doesn't fit that server.
  • Custom Calamity, the hosts' own booster, with its own title screen and soundscape.
  • Four films only custom cards can wear (Opaline, Aurora, Hoarfrost and Tidewater), and the Beyond films for them too.
  • 141 new effects for the Card Maker that no card carries yet.
  • A proper table for the Draft: bigger cards, films that follow your pointer, its own room and music.
  • Clearer Name Card wording, costs that must be paid in full, and the Godot Engine credited in About, the credits and a new Licences page.
